For the first game, the combat gameplay is a bit simplistic. The weapons use a heating system as opposed to ammo. At first, I preferred this type of gameplay, but in the later two games, the ammo generally feels better than having an unlimited supply of firepower. The cover system is a bit rough, because it's hard to get in and out of cover smoothly, not to mention you have to crouch to get into low cover. Where the combat gets most advanced is in the mods and customizations. You get heaps of stuff you can give to yourself or your squad mates, and you can get sick of it after a while. One more feature in (and out of) combat is the leveling system. You can level up your skills in different weapons like your pistol or sniper, along with combat powers such as shield boost. You are also able to level up passive health and melee damage upgrades. One final ability you can level up is speech choice. This is probably what you should focus on, as the dialogue is where the game shines. You have two types of special speech options. These usually help you out more than the normal dialogue choices. They are split into the more friendly, nice options (charm/paragon), and the more tough, angry options (intimidate/renegade). You can't really try to go in the middle with a mix of both, as this just leaves you weak in both options. Mass Effect presents you with a lot of choices you can make throughout the game. At times, certain squad members can live or die based on your actions, and many other choices involving other characters you meet exist as well. Many of these choices carry on to the next two games, adding a feeling of your playthrough being unique. In conversations with characters, you are presented with several things you can say to characters, which really makes your experience with the game your own, and shaping Shepard into the character you want. The characters in the game feel like real people, and you will come to treat them as your friends. If they ever die, you feel genuine loss, especially since they may or may not have made an effect on the future years later in the story. By the third game, anybody in your squad in the first game could be dead. You can also pursue romantic relationships with characters of the opposite gender, if you want to. Regardless of the choices you make, the story of all three games is fascinating and enjoyable throughout the 100+ hour experience. One thing that greatly adds to this experience is the brilliant and well-developed information that you find about the galaxy and it's history. All of the information you learn goes into your codex, and all of the technology and species contribute to the world in so many different ways. In the second and third games, the item system is streamlined to where you don't have tons of mods and ammo types. The sound and feel of weapons feels more crisp than the first game, and the cover is more flowing. You and your squad mates have special combat abilities that can slow down time, make an enemy go flying, or destroy a shield. The later games keep all of the things that make the dialogue of Mass Effect great. You feel like your experience is truly unique. One great addition to the second game is that every squad member has a loyalty mission, which goes deeper into the characters lives where you help them with a personal problem. Squad members that are loyal to you also are more likely to survive into the third game. The one big problem about this game is the ending. At the end, nothing you did throughout the rest of the three games matters, and you get three choices (that don't effect the ending much anyways). I recommend downloading the extended cut DLC, which majorly improves the ending, and covers more things that happened in depth, which also includes more dialogue and an extra scene with your partner if you chose to romance anybody.
There are so many great things in this trilogy that I didn't cover, and these are definitely my favorite games of all time. You need to buy this trilogy, and you also need to import your characters from game to game for the optimal experience. (Also, you should use the default Shepard, the facial customization doesn't match the voice, and is really a pointless feature)
Many of the reviews for this product focus on the boxed set itself, which seems to be a concern primarily for people who already played the games. If you are new to the game, I recommend this set. I can't speak for the DLC and other concerns voiced about the boxed set, but I really didn't care because I was new to Mass Effect anyway.
Get and play this game if:
-you love Space Operas (Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc.)
-you enjoy character skill tweaking (1st and 3rd game in particularly)
-you enjoy high paced tactical combat (2nd and 3rd game show definite progression)
-you want to experience an entirely self-contained background universe
-you enjoy small casts of well-developed characters that you WILL form a bond with (Wrex and Mordin are my homeboyz)
-you enjoy competitive coop multiplayer (3rd game has a multiplayer feature that is really an entire game of its own...for free!!!)
Not for you if:
-you play high fantasy settings only
-you are an adherent to JRPG "I go you go" turn sequences
-you enjoy having free time
Seriously...all 3 games for the price of one. I love this game so much, I bought the Trilogy even though I already have copies of the originals. There you go.
I'm Commander Shepherd and this is my favorite game on the Citadel.
The box is a fold out design held closed by a sleeve. It's slick looking display that has all the shine worthy of the contents it encloses. This is a must have for anyone who likes sci-fi, RPGs, or both. All three games work on Xbox One, so no worries if you don't have a 360.
Good game, good condition, fast shipping, great price

I've played the trilogy multiple times and it's some of the best storytelling and world building I've seen. Each character has their own personality and the voice actors did an amazing job portraying each of them. Your choices do matter and have consequences in the game and each subsequent one as well.
Mass Effect 1 builds the universe from the ground up and does a great job to keep you entertained all the way until the end. ME1 is more RPG and exploration focused than the other two in the trilogy. The max level is 60 and you'll have plenty to do. The combat is a bit dated but the storytelling will always hold up.
ME2 improves on a lot what ME1 does and gives you more squad mates to talk to and experiment with. ME2 is considered to be the strongest in the trilogy because it's an improvement from ME1's combat and storytelling. The leveling in this game is a lot more straight forward than in ME1.
ME3, in my opinion, is the best game in the trilogy until the final 20 or so minutes (the ending). The combat is a lot more fluid than ME2's, each class can deal with the highest difficulties well, you can experiment with builds, the Citadel DLC is amazing, and there's a lot of important choices you will have to make.
As for DLC, here's the recommended DLCs for each game:
Mass Effect 1:
None needed but bring down the sky is worth playing.
Mass Effect 2:
Free DLC (this includes Zaeed)
Kasumi
Arrival (the bridge between ME2 and ME3)
Lair of the Shadow Broker (very important in one of the character's development in the trilogy)
Mass Effect 3:
Extended Cut (it's free)
Citadel DLC (lots of fan service and gives you more to do on the citadel)
Leviathan DLC (backstory of the Reapers)
From Ashes (Prothean Squadmate)
Omega DLC is optional but I'd recommend it if you want a lot of combat focused gameplay
This Mass Effect trilogy boxset (for xbox 360) is not the pal version (uk) but the ntsc version (USA). The xb360 ntsc version will work on any xbox console regardless of what region your console is from, the same applies to the ps3 boxset also. This boxset will also work on Xbox one providing you have an Internet connection to download the games to play them (the games aren't read direct from the disc, the discs act more like activation keys that allow you to download the digital xbox one emulated versions, the discs must be in the console to play).
The ps4 does not get the same privilege as the ps4 is not backwards compatible with ps3 games whatsoever, unless you count that rental service, but that doesn't apply to this boxset.
To put it simple = the ntsc or pal xbox 360 boxset will work on any region for both xbox 360 and xbox one.
The ntsc or pal ps3 version will work on any region for ps3, but not ps4.
Now the tricky subject - DOWNLOAD content /DLC.
I was worried when I bought this for my Xbox one that my pal dlc would be incompatible with the ntsc discs, but this was not the case. If you are worried that a uk account plus having additional content would not work with these american discs then fear not, it all works fine, the Dlc was recognised (though I did not try the codes provided as I already have all the dlc for mass effect 2 and 3 so I'm not sure if redeeming them in another region will be an issue) .
Ps3 owners get a more raw deal though, as download content is region locked. The discs themselves will work just fine, but any dlc for the game must belong to the same region as the game.
It sucks I know but that's how Sony works on their discs and dlc, whereas xbox seem to be more relaxed on this matter.
Basically xbox 360 or xbox one will work fine, dlc or not, no problem.
The ps3 the discs work fine, but the dlc will require a US account to purchase and work, no other way around it.
I hope this review helps any out there who were unsure about purchasing this release.
