THE PRODUCT:
I of course purchased the Collector's Edition the moment it became available. It's well worth it in my opinion (payed about $100 with the preorder price guarantee). This includes: A VERY nice steelbook with the game, a digital code for the full score, STICKERS, a 72 page art book, and the statue... all contained in a sturdy, well padded collector's box. Should also note I got a free TLG PS4 theme and soundtrack sampler from Sony with my preorder. This CE has a one-up compared to other's I've gotten/seen because it's quality. The stature is super cool and of decent size. It's also made of durable plastics (rather then cheap, flimsy polystone) so it will last. The paint job -could- be better and is a been iffy in some places. The art book is nice, especially compared to other mini 'art books' that have come with CE... which are sometimes no more then glorified page inserts. I hope for a real Making-Of art book some day though! The Steelbook is very pretty and clean looking, much nicer then the generic game case. The music is Epic, Emotional, PERFECT... If you love the Shadow of the Colossus score you with love this as well. It all comes together in a sturdy, crate looking cardboard box... which can be kept in case you want to put everything back and store it. It's nice and not just a throw-away. ALSO, STICKERS.
THE GAME REVIEW [SPOILER FREE!!!]:
Ok so I got the game the day it came out (DUH preorder) And was able to finish it a couple days ago between my full-time job and life. Pretty good if you ask me. I did a lil review/rambles on my Bookface if you have me on there, but here I will get into more detail and break it all down. Hence: JUICY.
I understand they game has only been out for a week so this will be spoiler free to the core as a courtesy to others ;)
Ok as some of you know it’s been a long, tiring road since the game was first officially announced in 2009 as the game went through some development Hell. I really just lost hope and mostly forgot the game existed after no updates for yeeeaaars. ((If you are curious, check out the “Development” section here: http://teamico.wikia.com/wiki/The_Last_Guardian for better detail.))
Happy to say I am more than pleased with the finished product! Though I am also in joyous disbelief to finally have the game in my hands! I got the Collectors Edition of course :D preordered the moment it was available.
Anyway!
BEFORE YOU PLAY: It reeeaaaally helps if you are familiar with the team’s previous 2 games: ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. These are very unique ‘artsy’ games that don’t hold your hand and the controls have a bit of a learning curve. The interface is completely clean, no hud, no lifebar, no map… which keeps you immersed in the game. The only ‘prompts’ you get are in the form of a small narrative throughout the game or from Trico sounds/behavior. This is a really unique puzzle/platformer type game for lack of a better description… with aspects of both ICO and SotC mixed in. Don’t worry! I am not trying to deter newer players! Like I never played an Elder Scrolls game till Skyrim came out… which I love and then when on to play the other games. But there will be more of an appreciation for fans.
YOUR BIG BUDDY: Aka “Trico” (pronounced: "tee-co")your famous gigantic friend. The interaction between the PC (only called The Boy) and Trico (the creature) is so heartwarming! You will looooove their interactions *clutches heart*. Trico assists in getting you to high places, leaping to distant platforms, defending you from threats, and will exhibit behaviors in order to tell you where to go next… these include noises, looking in the direction of certain areas or objects, or attempting to interact with objects… His eyes also change color depending on his reaction to certain things and moods… All of which you will become familiar with. Of course there are times where you must help Trico as well. Most often involving going ahead on your own (don’t forget to give him a pat! For your own well being haha) to find your large friend a way though. Occasionally Trico will stop completely and you will have to find him a 'Trico Treat’ which are his food barrels. Other times when you have assist him in battles. It’s definitely a “He needs me as much as I need him.” feeling :’)
CONTROLS: I’m sure you have heard a thing or two about the game’s controls if you have been following it… that’s why i brought up being familiar with the previous two games. Remember the learning curve with the Shadow of the Colossus controls? HAW HAW WELCOME BACK BITCHES. You would think after about 10 years they would have worked the issues out of the controls/camera… as the boy stumbles around like a spaz while you continue to point him in the unintended direction with the unhelpful camera angles. This gets frustrating during tight platforming puzzles and when avoiding enemies.
So then we have commanding Trico… Please PLEASE keep in mind that Trico is not meant to obey your commands instantly! Trico was designed specifically to be his own character, NOT your pet. He’s a sentient creature with his own mind, the creators of this game specify designed him like that. Now that that’s been said… You can issue Trico basic commands! These include: pointing him in a certain direction, leaping, and swiping with his claws… which his AI occasionally has issues understanding. it is kinda funny/frustrating at some areas he will seemingly automatically jump from platform to platform on his own… and other times be completely confused of what he very obviously needs to do. Leaving you jumping and pointing frenziedly in the direction he needs to go. It’s also important to note that at he at times will ignore your commands if there is something of interest in the area or if you must do something else first. So I do find that some of the gripes on the game’s controls come from lack of understanding.
AESTETIC!: OOOOOOHHHHhhhh is this game pretty. DAMN, BEAUTIFUL. I really gained some major appreciation for the work put into this game the first couple times I got outside into the open. The whole ‘valley’ exists in real time… aka It’s layout doesn’t change depending on what ruin you come out of. You can see places you will be conquering later and places you’ve already been (including parts that got destroyed in your travels). This game is huge!
Clues of where you need to go (aside from Trico behavior) are in the environment as noninvasive as possible. Like maybe some shiny blue tiles on the ground mixed with the rest. The music is also beautiful, on par with SotC for realz. And It only comes in occasionally in order to not distract you, like at special plot points in the game. It was all done very well to not break immersion.
In Conclusion: This game, like the previous titles, if definitely something that needs to be appreciated as a piece of art. While you can run though fairly quickly if you want… DON’T… you’ll seriously be missing out (no really, you’ll seriously miss things). The game has some PS4 Trophies and Unlockables (cosmetic only!) to reward your efforts and/or make you want to return for a 2nd or 3rd playhtrough. Stop and smell the flowers, enjoy the massive scale of the game, appreciate all the developers put into it, get ready for some feels, and always stop and pet Trico often. DO IT. DO IT NOW.

Earlier this year, Puppins passed away. As if 2016 didn't suck hard enough.
I didn't know if I was going to be able to play The Last Guardian, considering how personal I made it, and if it disappointed me, I think it would have made it worse. But I picked up the collector's edition because I really liked the statue (which is great, by the way, very detailed and well made). I bit the bullet and put the game in my PS4. I started the journey.
Eight hours later, and I was of course a sobbing mess (that's not me spoiling any major events that happen in the game or anything). I don't know if it was me projecting, but I felt like the spirit of Puppins was alive and well within Trico. Like Trico, Puppins did not have the best life. She was very wary of strangers and she hated loud noises. She was quick to defend herself, but she wouldn't hurt anyone. As I slowly earned Trico's trust, I recalled the times I spent with Puppins trying to get her to trust me. And then that moment, when I finally taught her to sit, compared to the moment when Trico finally jumped when I asked him too, just filled me with joy. Once I earned Puppins' trust, she was the most loyal, sweet dog you could ever know.
Trico is also the most loyal and sweet creature I've ever seen in a video game. Though the game never let me forget what Trico was capable of, it also never let me forget how much Trico loves the boy, and the pain and trauma he overcomes to protect him. Trico is the perfect companion. He doesn't easily obey you, he'll give you subtle hints to move forward, and he's always up for you to feed him treats. When he was in pain, I felt it. When he'd risk his life for mine, I'd hold my breath with fear and anticipation. The last time I recall feeling so strongly for a companion character was Bioshock Infinite. The game does a fantastic job of designing puzzles that constantly have Trico and the boy relying on each other to move forward. The game also never forced me to bond with Trico. I don't know how I would have felt if Puppins' hadn't been in my life, but Trico's AI and animations make him have such a huge personality that I found it very hard not to love him. As I kept tossing him barrels of his favorite food, at some point he learned how to catch them out of the air. When Trico overcomes one of his greatest fears, I couldn't help but cheer. He is, ultimately and rightly so, the star of The Last Guardian.
I suppose now is where I should talk about the negatives, though for me, they are so small compared to everything else that it didn't overshadow the overall experience I had with the game. Sometimes getting the boy to let go of Trico is a trial. Some of the puzzles where you're forced to throw barrels into a specific place in order to get them to Trico were more irritating than they should have been. I was also slightly disappointed with the narrator, who I felt did more telling than showing. At some point the narrator establishes that Trico and the boy have an inseparable bond when I myself wasn't sure if I wanted to make that commitment yet. It was slightly surprising to me, as Ueda-san's games have always been about subtlety and showing the player through game play and level design the emotions of the main characters. I wished I could have turned that part off, but for the most part the narrator keeps quiet, especially during the more intense scenes.
The Last Guardian is not a game for everyone, and that's just fine with me. If you're looking for heavy, constant, action, the deliberately slow paced nature of the game might turn you off. Obviously, if you loved Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, you're more than likely going to love this game. You don't need to have played them in order to play this, but having those experiences might prepare you for what The Last Guardian will be like.
You don't have to listen to me when I say that The Last Guardian is one of the best games of 2016, as I am biased and my love for the game is mostly from personal attachment. But I will ask that you at least try it, because I think we need more games like this. This game was clearly Ueda-san's passion project, and it shows through every detail of Trico's many feathers. I don't know if Ueda-san will make another game, or what the future ultimately holds for games like this. All I know is that I'm really glad I played this game. For me, it couldn't have come at a better time.

the statue is really adorable with sleeping trico and the boy standing on it, by the way it is really quality, you can even see each of its feather clearly and trico’s expression on its face, the sticker sheet is also cute with the boy hugging trico, soundtrack and the blue ray game disc are inside the steel book case which is really special and great looking, and some of its soundtrack is really touched, especially when you remember those memorable moments you spent with trico, even the outside collector’s box is really amazing, I think for those who like this game this collector’s edition is totally worth 120 dollars

I didn’t play the first two game, and I just found this game is pretty attractive. I think the most important part in this game is how much you care about trico and how you get along with it, this will also effect the impact when you see the ending of this game.it’s AI system is really amazing! If you spend some time with it you will find that it just like a real animal and for others who has trouble commend trico, don’t treat it like a normal game character, instead treat it like a friendly wild animal you meet outside it will become much easier(although I didn’t get any trouble in my playthrough)the camera angle is just ok, sometimes get block by wall or trico but it’s still ok for me, in the end I think this is the game you don’t want to rush it, it also has lots of memorable moments with the boy and trico helping each other, which eventually build up the bond between those two, and I think this is the game that I will always remember.
